About
It started, as many of the best ideas do, over a beer: “We should put on an event when all those brewers are in town for the beer awards.”
Within days, an event became a week of events. Soon, that week was crammed with 50 tastings, showcases, dinners and more at 40 venues and breweries across Melbourne and Victoria. By the time Good Beer Week landed in May 2011, almost every single event had sold out and the city played host to a joyous movable feast at which brewers and beer lovers came together to celebrate their common bond: good beer.

It felt like validation. Proof that good beer attracts good people. At the week’s end, Sierra Nevada’s Steve Grossman said Melbourne had a beer scene as good as the States. Heck, even the Kiwi brewers left firing off generous compliments about their Aussie peers, as if the generations of trans-Tasman rivalry were merely a figment or our imagination.
That was then: a happy accident, where we stumbled upon a magic formula for good times around good beer. Now, with a year in which to prepare for Good Beer Week Mk II, we’re ready to raise the bar even higher and open our arms ever wider.
What does that mean?
It means even more exquisite events for the beer aficionado alongside laid back introductions to the world of good beer for newcomers. It means spreading our wings into the worlds of fine dining and high end cocktail bars, while staying true to beer’s roots as the most grounded and sociable of drinks. And it means giving the brewers, bars, bottleshops and beer lovers of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and the world a platform on which to shine.
Let the good times roll and the good beer flow.
See you all in May.
